The HBAA Foundation
With the proceeds from the annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon, the 501(c)(3) HBAA Charitable Foundation supports charitable and educational programs and services that provide significant benefit to the Hispanic community, focusing primarily on scholarships to demonstrably talented Hispanic students.
In partnership with the Texas Appleseed Diversity Legal Scholarship Program, the Foundation awards college students educated in Central Texas, including Austin, San Marcos, Seguin, and Georgetown, full-tuition scholarships to the review course for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). The Foundation strives to award ten LSAT review course scholarships annually based on grade point average, financial need, contribution to community, resume, essay, and letter(s) of recommendation. Scholarships are awarded two/three times annually, and applications and deadline information are available by emailing any of the foundation's officers. The Foundation does not award scholarships retroactively.
Five grants in the amount of $750 are awarded annually to members of the Chicano-Hispanic Law Students Association (CHLSA) who are graduating from the University of Texas School of Law. The grants provide financial assistance as students prepare for the Bar review course. Applications are available from the UT Law School Financial Aid Office approximately three weeks before the annual spring CHLSA banquet.
The Irma Rangel Scholarship, in honor of the former state representative who served as chair of the House Higher Education Committee, is under development by the Foundation with specifics to be announced soon.
